Gerry’s background in the music business encompasses DJing, promoting, running/working for record labels, journalism, compiling albums and broadcasting.
Currently: Presenting a two hour show on Phonic FM every two weeks and running/DJing at two monthly club night: Mambista (African, Latin, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Soul etc.) and El Swing (Salsa) and sessions at Spiritland.
Radio
Gerry presented “Planet Mambo” on BBC London 94.9 FM (and previously on GLR) from November 1996 – September 2001 and continued to guest on the station until 2006.
During that time Planet Mambo featured guests such as Joyce, Afro Cuban All Stars, Ashley Beedle, Kirsty MacColl, Snowboy, Rufus Wainwright, Mr. Scruff, Bebel Gilberto, Charlie Watts, Nitin Sawhney, Marcos Valle, Nathan Haines, Moreno Veloso and Lonnie Liston Smith.
Mambo Inn
Gerry was a co-founder and resident DJ at the Mambo Inn which was a clubland phenomenon. At its peak it ran on Fridays and Saturdays at the Loughborough Hotel in Brixton, South London with a musical policy that stretched from Latin to African to Jazz and beyond, and had to turn away hundreds of people every night. Besides hosting a wide range of bands the Mambo Inn also featured guest DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Dr. Bob Jones, Ross Allen, Patrick Forge, Jon More (Coldcut), Gaz Mayall etc. Mambo Inn ran from 1987 – 1996.

Also, alongside artists such as Willie Colon, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Olodum, Tania Maria, Steve Winwood, Ernest Ranglin etc.
