Monthly, Thursday 8-10pm
Jazz, Acoustic, Electronic, Downtempo, Chill Out
Coastal Breaks is a new show for anyone who dwells in the sea or loves being near it. It’s also simply a show for those into deeper music, from across lots of different genres.
Its not a balearic show, though it’ll feature music that won’t sound out of place on the beach, at sunset or sunrise. With this said, the show’s biggest influence is surfing and the sea. With my other show on TWR – Jazzology, I was starting to feel confined with limitations and pigeon holed. To others this might not have been evident, though for myself there’s so much more music that I wanted to share. By having a show like Coastal Breaks, it means I have more flexibility to play music from so many more different genres. Some people know me as a DnB man, some a Jazz man. Though the reality is, I simply love good music. The genre is the least important thing for me.
I’ve also been wanting to connect my passion for surfing and my music for a long while now. I’ve stated on many occasions that Jazz was the original sound track to the original surf films back in the 60’s, before bands like the beach boys came along, though the connection for others didn’t seem to land and was a little tenuous.
So to keep things real for me and to connect the two worlds more firmly, Coastal Breaks will be focusing on music old and new, with Jazz / Acoustic / Electronic / Downtempo & Chill Out being the main genres that you’re likely to hear. You may also here a mid 90’s atmospheric Drum & Bass track, some Trip Hop or Folk / Alternative Rock.
As with surfing, the show will be about freedom and flow. It’ll be a soundtrack to kick back too. Like the ocean it’ll be unpredictable, though importantly it’ll be music with depth and soul. I hope to also host some Coastal Breaks nights, so keep you eyes and ears peeled for more on that moving forward.
