Shamboogie Supplement
Monthly, Sunday 11am-Midday
Jazz, Latin, Soul, Tropical, Disco
Shamblin Sexton has been playing records since the early 90s. In the late 90s he was joint-editor of Milesahead magazine and had a monthly Saturday night residency at the Bugbar in Brixton for seven years.
His panoramic musical tastes have been influenced as much by Harvey-era Tonka at The Zap and Russ Dewbury’s Jazz Rooms in Brighton as by his love of jazz, soul, blues and country music. This has resulted in his having compiled a number of albums in various genres as well as releasing albums by contemporary bands on his Whiskey Preachin label.
As the man behind The Great Eastern, one of Brighton’s favourite pubs, he gets to program four DJ sessions every week, with some of the best selectors Brighton has to offer playing on rotation.
Shamboogie is his outlet for playing his favourite jazz-influenced dance music, new and old; from jazz funk, latin, afrobeat, jazz, soul and funk to hip hop, boogie, disco and house music, if it sounds right it could well fit under the Shamboogie parasol.
