Jazz Odyssey
Monthly, Sunday 2-4pm
Jazz, Modern Jazz, Classic Jazz

Jazz means different things to different people.

For me, it used to mean the jazz-dance tunes you would hear at rare groove nights. It would mean jazz-funk, acid-jazz, tunes that were “jazzy”. Jazz Juice or indeed Totally Wired compilations. It didn’t mean Miles Davis or Wayne Shorter. I didn’t understand that music, I didn’t get it. But now I do, and I can’t stop listening to it.

I want to share this revelation, this discovery. There is so much to uncover and learn. This show is a journey in jazz from the 50’s through to right now. A jazz odyssey, if you will…

Brought to you by Andy Crowther. Having been blessed / cursed by growing up in Wickford, Essex, Andy had access to Adrian’s record shop from a young age. Adrian’s was at one time “The Largest Record Store in Essex”, and is responsible for his vinyl addiction that is still as strong today. Being a regular at Gary Dennis’ nights at the Windmill pub in Hanningfield created a hunger for all things soulful, and inevitably led to clubbing in London during the hey-day of the soulful house music explosion in the 90s. Which, inevitably, led to putting on his own parties with the Whistle Bump crew who were infamous for their boat parties on the Thames and at venues around town, bringing over the best of the NY DJs like Danny Krivit and Francois K for a period of over 10 years. He then had kids and moved out of London (inevitably, back to Essex), and now listens to nothing but jazz.
