Heinz Felber has been a DJ for 45 years with the same passion as when he started. The Austrian started as a DJ in 1979 and he played all the hot disco stuff in various clubs. From 1980 he was a regular DJ at Cooky’s Club in Frankfurt. He stayed there for 16 years and went through disco, hip hop new wave and rare grooves. He was the co-founder of the radio show HR3 Clubnight where he lit up the garage house. He was 17 years old and shaped an era.

Starting in 1989, he founded a Tuesday night club at Cooky’s that he called Club Supreme. There he listened to acid jazz, dance jazz, funk from the 70’s and Brazilian music. In the very late 80s there was a big dance jazz boom called acid jazz. The term was coined in 1988 by DJs Gilles Peterson & Eddie Piller and the music style emerged in London clubs in the 1980s.

This revival was initially comparable to the traditional jazz revival through the playing of older records – especially from the area of soul jazz and jazz funk from the late 1960s and early 1970s. In Germany it took place in Hamburg at the Mojo Club in Munich with Michael Reinboth and in Frankfurt at Cooky’s on Tuesdays.

Heinz Felber (Club Supreme) picked up the trend and interpreted it individually and in his own way, which the city approved of. Heinz Felber organized his own, fantastic “house band,” the “Club Supreme Band,” and a cool dance vibe was created that made Tuesdays a place of worship with the house always full. Fantastic concerts followed – Jamiroquai, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Mick Talbot, Galliano, James Taylor Quartet, Corduroy and many more performed at Cooky’s. The young Gilles Peterson was a welcome DJ at the turntables.
