Mark ‘Moses’ Smith
Are Friends Eclectic
Monthly, Sunday 2-4pm
Post Punk, Leftfield, Soul, Reggae, Disco
My first recollection of my love of music was listening to the radio with my mum on a Sunday whilst she cooked the Sunday roast; and also my brother and sister getting ready to go out for the night stacking up the Dansette record player with the latest reggae and soul music… I have my family to thank!
Soul, Reggae, Burt Bacarach and Frank Sinatra were my earliest influences and it grew from there. I have been a Bootboy, a long haired Rock fan… I became a Hairdresser. A Disco fan. A Soul fan, a Punk, a Revivalist Mod, a Gabbici wearing Reggae fan, an early eighties warehouse party frequenter, and a father… then along came Acid House and I became a promoter, hosting parties and club events…
Now I’m an older man, I still listen to everything I’ve grown to love, I’m not stuck, listening to one kind of music, and it reflects on what I play on my show. Am sure you will hear something you love and hopefully introduce you to something new that you may have never entertained before but then again, there may be something you absolutely hate!
The earlier description of my show was “Like a bag of Revels”! You know, I hate the coffee ones but I just keep digging for the ones I love…
