Having cut his teeth on college radio in the late 70s and early 80s, Pat got into jazz “backwards” by being seduced by jazz-funk and fusion tracks played by various radio and club DJs. Wilbert Longmire’s track “Black Is The Color” and a Crusaders’ concert in Colchester shown by the Beeb were chief drivers for Pat exploring the fusion side of things. Cue a 25 year hiatus for him to get married and earn an honest living, Pat would return to the airwaves at an FM community radio station and has gone on to host his “Infusions” show on a number of online stations.
The show has changed little over the years and has as its core the desire to play contemporary jazz and will feature current and recent releases, including singles from forthcoming albums. Pat also will give a nod to those jazz-fusion tracks that piqued his interest all those years ago, and will often include a heavy dose of “nordic chill” inspired by his love of artists such as the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Daniel Karlsson and Little North.
On a personal front, Pat took up playing the trumpet many years ago and got to the stage of beginning jazz theory (and mastering the “easy bit” of Herbie Hancock’s “Maiden Voyage”) only for an RTA to stop him in his tracks. Pat believes this event may have saved his neighbours’ hearing…
