Tel Aviv Soul Club
Monthly, Tuesday 10pm-midnight
Soul, Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Northern Soul, Rhythm & Blues, Popcorn
Tel Aviv Soul Club, aka TASC, was founded in 2006 by Yashiv Cohen, who lured the brothers Ne’eman to establish a place where people can come together and hear soul music.
Johnnie and Bin Ne’eman (aka The Faithful Brothers, as ‘Ne’eman’ means ‘Faithful’ in Hebrew), have been collecting soul records since their teens in the 60s and 70s, and have been DJing Soul, as well as Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae, in Tel Aviv clubs since the 1980s.
Yashiv has been DJing since the early noughties, and is also the lead singer of TASC’s first offspring – Men of North Country (MONC) – a Tel Aviv band with a distinct sound, blending soul, British pop and rock’n’roll, that has recorded two albums to date, for Acid Jazz Records. TASC’s Raison d’être is keeping 60’s Soul music alive and kicking in Tel Aviv, so expect a lot of Northern Soul, Rhythm & Blues, Popcorn and whatever genre that’s got that scent of freedom rubbed on it.
